The day after the lifting of the first span, work begins on the last foundations to be built
The works for the execution of the last foundation piles to be built are to start this week – those of Pier 1 on the west, and those of Pier 13 on the east.
The construction site is therefore at work on all the remaining Piers that will support the new viaduct: on 1 October in fact, two huge cranes, after the completion of Piers 5 and 6, have raised on them (up to about 50 meters high) the 56-meter long beam with a weigh of 500 tons, that will be the first span of the new bridge.
In addition, the execution of the foundation piles of the west abutment of the viaduct has been started and is nearing completion, while the works for those of Pier 2 have been completed and work is being done to complete the foundation plinth.
Once the plinth has been completed, work is already underway on the elevation of Pier 3. Finally, work continues on Piers 4 and 9, and the elevation of Piers 3, 7 and 8 has begun.
Also on the west, the assembly activities for the spans 4-5, 5-6, 6-7 and 8-9 of the deck are fully operational, and three transports of exceptional loads have been carried out for the arrival at the construction site of 15 segments which will make up the first 100-metre span.
On the east, in recent weeks, work has been completed on the plinth of Pier 10 and on the sub-foundations of Pier 12, 14 and 15, whose plinths are currently being constructed. The works for the construction of the sub-foundations of Pier 16 have also been completed, while those for the construction of the bulkheads of the piles of Pier 17 are underway, and those for the abutment for the ramp connecting with the A7 are proceeding.
While the activities on Piers continue, workers are operating on the assembly of the steel segments which will make up the spans 14-15 and 15-16.
